Trump Tower Dream

I dreamed I was in Trump Tower when an airplane flew into the building. I was a few floors below where the plane hit. I didn’t see the fire/explosion, but I knew that it had happened. I was with a group of people; all were strangers. One woman was the nanny of Ivanka Trump’s little girl. She was a toddler. I was eager to get everyone moving to a lower floor. I was afraid the building would collapse like the World Trade Center did on 9/11.

We found stairs and started down, only to end abruptly at a blank wall after a few flights. We had to go back up and find access to other stairs. We started down again, and once more we ended at a blank wall. We started back up again, and eventually we found ourselves in a  huge room. People lined the walls in chairs. I realized that one of them was Ivanka. She was silently weeping. Her little girl was gone. I sensed that the child was gone forever, but of course, I knew we all were. No one would escape.

Donald Trump appeared and told us that all was well. Everything was fine. Not to worry. We all looked at him blankly. No one believed him. Everyone knew the plane had hit Trump Tower, and that we were all going to die, but he kept insisting that everything was great. I wanted to believe him, but I could not.

Interpretation: Plane Crash

I couldn’t find much that I could relate to about this dream. I did find that, “If you feel helpless when you watch the plane crash, it may mean that you are setting yourself up for failure because of some challenging situations in your life.” I did not see the plane crash, but I knew it had crashed into the building and I felt helpless.

Interpretation: Fire

I did not see the fire in this dream, but I knew it was there. Most of the interpretations I found about fire had to do with setting goals, reaching goals, perhaps making one’s goals too high, being concerned one may not reach goals, etc.

I felt out of control in the dream. I knew it was imperative that we move quickly, but nothing I did seemed to make progress. As soon as I thought I’d made progress, I had to retrace my steps, ending up at the place I’d begun. Maybe this was simply about my diet/weight loss. LOL I’ve lost a lot of weight and I’m much closer to my goal, but I’ve reached a plateau (up a pound, down a pound every few days) and it seems that I have to keep retracing my steps, losing the same pounds over and over again. My goal looks very far away at this point. This was a very frustrating dream.

Interpretation: President

When one dreams of the current President, this is a sign that the dreamer wants to live a more honorable and highly respected life.

That one made me laugh out loud.

Heartbroken

Yesterday was daylight saving time, and I was tired today. I fell asleep this afternoon and slept long enough to go into REM sleep, and you know what that means. I dreamed.

I dreamed that I visited my doctor, and he was very concerned that my heart wasn’t working right, and that my feet were so cold. He said my heart couldn’t decide what to do: to pump the blood to my head or my feet. I asked if there was anything he could do. He did not look hopeful, but said there may be one thing. He then called to his nurse and asked, “How long has (name of a drug) been on the market. She yelled back, “Three months.” He said he had to prepare it, and that I should return in three hours. I left, went shopping, went home and told my son, who was visiting. By then, I realized that over three hours had passed. I asked my son to take me to the doctor’s office. We got in the car and started the short trip. I was distraught, afraid that we wouldn’t get there before his office closed. My son didn’t seem concerned. I woke.

Oh, Hill

Last week, I had the most horrible dream about Hillary Clinton. It was very short, but extremely distressing. I was at an event. I was seated on the front row, and she was one seat over, flanked on both sides by… I don’t know… friends? secret service? Not sure, but when she tried to stand, they had to help her. She could not stand on her own. She looked depleted, exhausted and ill. She had that blank look in the eyes that people have when their life force is draining out of them. I was so sad.

Interpretation: Dreaming of a politician

To dream of a politician, denotes displeasing companionships, and incidences where you will lose time and means. Source: Dream Interpretation

On this one, I found no interpretation of dreaming about a politician that had any relevance to my waking life. The interpretation above is the closest because daylight saving time began today, so I did lose time, literally. But I don’t think that’s the spirit of this interpretation.

Interpretation: Illness

Illness is an unfavorable symbol for you. Unfortunately, it is not the case when some dream has an opposite meaning in reality. Instead, it gives you a signal to check your state of health and take corresponding measures in time.

If you or someone else is ill in your dream, such a dream is a warning for you. It cautions you against some oncoming danger in the future. Source: Globe-Views

This is the second illness dream I’ve had recently. In my last illness dream, I dreamed I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Understandably, I’m not thrilled with this interpretation.

Breast Cancer Dream

A couple of nights ago, I dreamed I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and felt pretty sure that I was going to die. In the midst of the dream, I remember thinking objectively how ironic it would be if breast cancer turned out to be the thing to kill me instead of something heart-related. I woke remembering the mammogram reminders that had arrived on two separate occasions in my mailbox last month. I’d thought, oh, yes, it’s that time, and promptly tossed them in the trashcan in the computer room. My conscious mind may have forgotten, but my subconscious mind is on the ball. I guess it’s time to make an appointment.

When I searched the meaning of “breast cancer dreams,” to my surprise, I found that women have had breast cancer warning dreams.  They actually had warning dreams prior to diagnosis, and some women even revealed the exact location, and were then diagnosed. There are rare reports of breast cancer warning dreams in dream literature and even fewer in medical literature. So let’s not get crazy here, but still a little eerie.

There was a survey. Well, you knew there had to be.

The five most common characteristics of warning dreams in descending order of frequency reported in the survey were: a sense of conviction about the importance in 94%; the dreams were more vivid, real or intense than ordinary in 83%; an emotional sense of threat, menace or dread in 72%; the use of the specific words breast cancer/tumor in 44%; and the sense of physical contact with the breast in 39%.
Warning dreams of breast cancer were often reported to be life changing experiences that prompted medical attention leading directly to diagnosis. Further research needs to be done to determine the frequency of such dreams in women without known breast cancer in order to assess the predictive value of a warning dream. Source: Pub Med

Interpretation: dying

To dream of your own death indicates a transitional phase in your life. You are becoming more enlightened or spiritual. Alternatively, you are trying desperately to escape the demands of your daily life. Source: Dream Moods

That first sentence about becoming more “enlightened or spiritual” is more applicable to my life than the second. I’m not trying desperately to escape my life.

As for the “warning dream” interpretation: I did not have a strong  sense of dread, threat, or menace. So I’m not of the mindset that this was a warning dream… at all.

To answer your question: yes, I made my mammogram appointment.

Strangers and Death

Night before last, I had a dream. I was in my father’s house after he died. About a dozen people – strangers – showed up from some nameless organization that made monthly visits to make sure I was caring properly for my father, and that the house was clean. One woman wiped her hand across the paneling and gazed disgustedly at her palm. Angrily, I told her that my father had died, and they had no right to be there, and no right to judge me. Another woman said, “Too bad he put the house in his son’s name all those years ago. It would be in foreclosure by now, and I could get a good deal on this waterfront property.” That’s when I shouted, “Shut your mouth, or I’ll throw you out.” Then I heard my husband’s calm-talking-to-a-child voice saying, “Where ya going?” I was sitting up in bed, getting ready to throw her butt out. That’s what I was doing, but H stopped me. Lucky for her.

Dream Interpretation: Strangers

Strangers in your dreams may represent aspects of yourself that you have not yet recognized, or you are denying or repressing.
They may be people that you met in passing during the day but didn’t notice because they were not significant or important enough at the time.
They may be guides that have come to help you.
Strangers may also represent someone that acts strangely or something that is strange to you. Source: DreamCloud

Dream Interpretation: Death

According to Jeffrey Sumber, M.A., M.T.S., L.C.P.C., a psychotherapist and author in Chicagor, dreams about death often indicate “the symbolic ending of something, whether that’s a phase, a job or a relationship.” He suggests that a dream about death can also indicate attempts to resolve anxiety or anger directed toward the self.

He continues…
“Like all dreams, death-related dreaming is an opportunity for introspection and growth.” A person can ask herself if she is anxious about something or angry at herself or someone else. “I can potentially learn that part of me is not at peace with the notion of my own death or the ending of something big in my life,” says Sumber. “I have the opportunity to look within, take stock of myself and make adjustments as needed.” Source: The Huffington Post
This dream interpretation is part of a Huffington Post series about dream interpretation.

So what is this all about? A dozen people judging me, and finding me lacking. Ouch! Couldn’t be me judging myself and finding myself lacking, could it? Hmmm

The Not so Friendly Skies

airplaneNight before last, I dreamed that I was on an airplane. My husband was sitting on one side of me, and another man was sitting on the other side. He and I had just bought new watches and were putting them on. I got the little stick part of the catch pushed through the hole in the band, but I could not get the tail tucked through the little loop that secures it. He helped me. I thought he was nice. Then he roughly told me to stand up and sing a song in a foreign langue. I told him I only spoke English. He said, “Fake it.” I knew he was trying to get me to make a distraction. He was up to no good. I believed he was a terrorist, and I sensed he would kill me if I didn’t comply. I stood in the middle of the aisle, and at the top of my lungs, I started singing Amazing Grace in a pitiful, garbled, fake foreign language. I woke myself and H while singing the song.

Interpretation: Singing
A dream about singing on stage or singing in front of an audience may suggest that you are wanting or needing someone to listen to you in waking life. Source: Dream Cloud

I found several interpretations of singing, but this one was the best fit. I’ve had several dreams resulting in similar interpretations.

Interpretation: Terrorist
* May represent feeling dominated, disempowered, threatened, afraid or intimated.
* May represent feelings and concerns about terrorism in the world.
* May symbolize a part of your shadow side with negative traits that you have yet to recognize or understand.

Interpretation: Being on an Airplane
Dreams about airplanes, like dreams about all modes of transportation, may be addressing the path you are on in life, how fast you are moving and how much you are in control of your life. Consider what the plane is doing, who you are and where you are on the plane for further insight. Source: Dream Cloud

Winged Creatures

Remember those old galvanized tubs that were more like a large bucket? They were big enough to fill with water and let a toddler splash away to his heart’s content. Last night, I dreamed that two of the most beautiful creatures were swimming around in one. They looked like tiny humans. Their naked bodies were perfectly formed, and their iridescent wings glistened with lustrous colors of  turquoise and shimmering gold. Kicking their feet, entwined in each other arms, they swam around the perimeter of the galvanized tub. I was enchanted. It was pure pleasure to watch them.

Then a boy from my old neighborhood (1984 – 2002) – I apparently was living there again – appeared. I showed him the tiny creatures, and then, for some reason, I had to leave. When I returned, the creatures had been removed from the tub, and they were dead. I was bereft.

Dream Interpretation:

Nudity
When someone appears nude in a dream, it means that a certain aspect or emotion of the dreamer is being expressed openly and without limitation, even to the point that the dreamer feels exposed or vulnerable.
Source: The Mind Unleashed
Nakedness
To dream of other people being naked may represent “seeing the naked truth of a situation.” All weaknesses are out in the open.
Source: Dream Bible
Wings
To dream of wings represents feelings of new-found freedom. Success without limitations. Freedom to do something you want to do all the time. Feeling that nothing is holding you back. Alternatively, wings may reflect transcendence or your attempt to escape from a difficult situation. The ability to rise above and heal.

Death
In the language of the mind, death usually represents the shift from one state of being to another. Although many may perceive death in a dream as frightening or negative, it usually correlates to a dramatic change or transition that is happening in the dreamer’s life.
Source: The Mind Unleashed

This is the second dream I’ve had recently that was interpreted as representing a “shift from one state of being to another,” or a desire to transcend to another state or perhaps a greater understanding of myself or something in my life? To overcome? To heal?

Lost Keys

skeletonkeysLast night’s dream found me, along with a crush of other people, gently meandering up and down one of those lovely, mature, treelined neighborhoods that skirt urban areas. The homes were stately, beautiful and flawlessly maintained. They stood close together with their small, clipped yards touching one another. One front door in particular attracted my attention.  It was a red lacquered affair with a flawless, high sheen. Red is my favorite color.

It was dark; only the glow from lamp posts lighted our way. The air was the essence of autumn: clean and crisp, but lying just beneath the surface was that unmistakable, rich, loamy scent, the earmark of fall. Leaves fell from overhanging trees as H and I walked under them. It was Halloween, but not a child was in sight, not a witch, not a devil, not even a single princess was abroad on this beautiful fall night. Only adults roamed the streets in a slow, relaxed, carnival-like stroll. Though it was Halloween, it was a different kind of Halloween; it was Halloween for adults only.

There were no costumes. Everyone wore seasonal clothing: sweaters, jeans, lightweight jackets, and the occasional scarf around the neck. H and I walked up the sidewalk to the house with the red door. We entered. There was an elaborate buffet of cheeses, dips, canapés, pumpkin pies and mulled cider. We ate and drank and enjoyed. When we had our fill, we left, but no sooner than we’d left the house and rejoined the throng, I realized that I’d forgotten my keys. I went back inside immediately. Only a few seconds had passed, but my keys were gone. I searched and searched, but could not find them. How would we get home?

Note: On a long-ago Halloween, when I was about eleven-years-old, I recall going to a  neighborhood that was similar to the one in my dream. My mother and I were visiting my sister in Connecticut, and we took my two nieces trick-or-treating.

Another stress/frustration dream in which I lost something important and could not find it. I’ve had several of these recently. This was such a sweet dream until I realized I’d lost something. What did it mean?

Interpretation of Losing Keys in Dream
Among other things: “Lost keys may also represent feeling lost or feeling a loss of control, power or authority in some aspect of life; may also symbolize a lost or missed opportunity.
Source: DreamsCloud

I found a couple of interpretations for losing keys in a dream. They offered similar analysis, but this one resonated with me, and more closely identifies a niggling annoyance at the moment, when referring to a “lost opportunity.” A decision I made in the past has come back to bite, and has recently begun to weigh on my mind.

Interpretation of Doors
A choice of many doorways represents a difficult decision you must make in real life.
Source: Dream Interpretation

To dream that you are entering through a door signifies new opportunities that are presented before you. You are entering into a new stage in your life and moving from one level of consciousness to another. In particular, a door that opens into the inside denotes your desire for inner exploration and self-discovery. Source: Dream Moods

I like the idea of “new opportunities” since I’m not thrilled with the “lost opportunity” that the lost keys symbolized. If you remember, there were many doors from which to choose and that represents a “difficult decision.” Lot’s of food for thought.

Speaking of food…

Interpretation of Eating in a Dream
To dream that you are eating with others signifies harmony, intimacy, merriness, prosperous undertakings, personal gain, and/or joyous spirits. Source: Dream Moods

I’ll take it!!

Ronald Reagan Dream

ronald_reagan_wI added another president to my esteemed list of presidential dreams – another Republican. I seem to dream more often about Republicans than Democrats, though one of my funniest presidential dreams was a cheesy affair that included President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and Secretary John Kerry. A trifecta.

Last night, I dreamed about Ronald Reagan for the first time. I was at a celebration of his life. There were speeches, a movie and lots of food and drink and people. There was standing room only. I found one of his daughters (I don’t know if it was Maureen or Patti), and said nice things about her father.

Free post cards were available for people who wanted to write a note for the family. For some unknown reason, I wanted to put mine in an envelope. I found a stack of envelopes on a table. I put my written post card down to pull an envelope out, and when I was ready to put it in the envelope, I realized there were hundreds of other post cards on the table, and I couldn’t find mine. It had disappeared in the pile. It seemed very important that I find it, but it also seemed an impossible task. It was extremely frustrating.

This is not an exciting dream, but I had to post it because it adds another president to the collection. I wonder who will be next?

Parasomnia

sleepwalking-1-2Originally Written: January 12, 2017

H is still sleeping, but I’ve been up a while. I got a good night’s sleep, not waking until 4:44. That’s almost 5:00 a.m., and I consider 5:00 a.m. to be honest-to-goodness morning time. The night was uneventful. I don’t recall any dreams, and I didn’t swing on H or run into a wall or piece of furniture, or sit up in bed screaming at someone only I could see. In my book, that’s a thumbs-up kind of night. Speaking of books, I just ordered a new book. It’s a thriller/detective: The Sleepwalker by Chris Bohjalian. I’ve never read this author and know little about the book, but honestly… could I pass up a title like that?

I’ve finally come to the full-fledged realization that I’m a bona fide sleepwalker. I’ve probably taken this too lightly for a while, believing that these were only widely spaced, semi-isolated incidents that would eventually go away, or at the very least, would not become dangerous.

There were long stretches without any incidents, but they slowly increased in frequency and intensity. They started out with me sitting up in bed and yelling at someone only I could see, then a rebellious hand knocking water off a nightstand or hitting the headboard, and eventually to where I find myself today, running into furniture, tripping over things, jumping up and down and spinning in circles.

I had another dream a few nights ago. Putin had poisoned Barbara Walters, and she was dying. She asked me to get her purse and camera that she’d left in another room and a newspaper article she’d been reading. When I attempted to retrieve them, a man tried to wrestle the purse and camera out of my hands. I swung on him, and I hit H in the mouth. This is a problem. I suggested that he start sleeping in another room, but no go with that idea. He’s afraid I’ll kill myself in the middle of a crazy dream. The guard rail for the bed has not arrived, but it should be here soon.

Dream Interpretations
Dictator
To dream of a dictator may symbolize an over controlling father or father figure.

Yep to that one.

Celebrity
To dream that you are good friends with a celebrity represents your idealized version of someone you know in your life. Perhaps you hope that a real-life friend can act more like a particular celebrity. Consider the qualities that you see in this celebrity and how you want your friends to have those qualities.
Source: Dream Moods

Sure, Barbara Walters can hang with me anytime!

Poison
To see poison in your dream denotes that you need to get rid of something in your life that is causing you much sickness and distress. You need to cleanse and purge away the negativity in your life.
Source: Dream Moods

I didn’t actually see poison in my dream, but this was the coolest interpretation I could find. I don’t have a lot of negativity in my life, thankfully. I can’t make sense of this one.
